Jasper is one of the workhorses of the crystal world. Jasper has been worn as jewelry, carved and carried as talismans in cultures all around the globe and in eras from Ancient Egypt to Native American traditions. Jasper belongs to that nearly infinite Quartz family called Chalcedony. The Jasper family itself is rather extensive, occurring in every color under the sun.
Jasper is a crypto crystalline Quartz. Simply put, the crystals in Jasper gemstones are so dense and so tightly compacted that they are invisible to the naked eye. The name Jasper comes to us from the Greek language. Jaspis or the ancient spelling Iaspis was the name of a mythical stone found in the head of the adder snake. Jasper was a favorite in the ancient world, and it can be traced back in Hebrew, Assyrian, Persian, Greek and Latin.
Jasper is a stone of protection. It protects against negativity and aids in grounding one to the stabilizing energies of the earth. Jasper can be used to align the energy of the chakras and to integrate the attributes of the chakras, such that astral excursions can be affected.
Jasper balances the Yin-Yang energies and also balances the physical, intellectual and emotional bodies with their etheric energies. Jasper stabilizes the aura, providing a cleansing effect to smooth dysfunctional energies and eliminating negative energies.
Jasper was worn by native shaman for protection during healings and dream quests. It holds an aspect of solar energy and a connection to the solar plexus chakra which helps shaman in the magical practices. For Native American Indians it is a sacred stone that is used for performances of and adherence to the “old ways” rituals.
The ancients used Jasper as a sacred, protective stone and as an aid for safe astral travel (Jasper was placed on the heart and navel chakras before astral travel). It has also been used for dowsing. Jasper has been used by both priests, kings and in the breast plate of the high priest.
The ancient Egyptians wore Jasper scarabs as amulets, and both Indians in Asia as well as Native Americans see jasper as both a magical rain stone and also a powerful healing stone. Jasper was used in Ancient European times as a “rain bringer” and it is interesting to note that the word for jasper in some American Indian cultures also meant, “Rain Bringer”.
Jasper needs direct contact with the skin, and after each use, the stone should be cleaned under running water and recharged overnight.
Each color and variation has slightly different properties and purposes, from abundance to healing and protection. For example, green Jasper is a stone of luck and prosperity; use it to boost your fortune. Spider Jasper connects the wearer with magic and the web of life. Varieties of Brown Jasper help keep you grounded. Jasper with yellow color is used to assist and protect during times of spiritual and physical travel. Brick Red Jasper
Called the “mother of all stones”, Brick Red Jasper will balance all chakras, stabilize the energy fields and protect the wearer from negativity by absorbing those vibrations.

This jasper is also said to have energies of ascertaining value; it was once used as a touchstone for determining gold content.
Leopardskin Jasper (or Leopard Stone)
Leopardskin Jasper is a stone of shamanic journeying, as well as aiding one in service to others. It helps discover and connect one with their given animal totems (or power animals), and makes it easier for one to take responsibility properly. Leopardskin Jasper is also useful in heightening creative visualization to gain the advantage. As with all jaspers this is a protective stone, and it is particularly protective during shamanic journeys. Leopardskin Jasper it is quite helpful in self healing as well.
Exotica Jasper (aka Sci-Fi Jasper)
Exotica jasper, feels most like a cool milkshake on a hot summer day, it is quite soothing. There is nothing bland about this stone’s energy though, it has a subtle and deep energy that seems to nurture one on their soul level. As it carries all the attributes of jaspers in general, it is used for protection, but it is also nurturing during soul retrievals, healing of traumas or other deep emotional wounds; not only is it helpful for those being healed, but also for the healer as well.
Dalmatian Jasper is a stone that lessens or removes disillusionment. It will help one see their strengths and weaknesses, as well as encourage grounding both with the earth and reality. Ocean Jasper is one of the most protective of the Jaspers. It is a very calming and soothing stone, bringing forth a quiet clarity. Ocean Jasper is specifically used to align all of the chakras. Ocean Jasper helps us connect to nature, the earth, and attracts the Devics (nature sprites or faerie kingdom). Morgan Hill Poppy Jasper is found in the area of Morgan Hill, California, USA. This is an increasingly rare orbicular jasper with red and yellow dots of “poppy flowers”. It is a brecciated jasper that comes from a specific region. It carries all the same metaphysical properties of poppy jasper.
Rainbow Jasper is used to ease emotional stress, and to create a relaxed and secure feeling. It grounds, balances and assists in healing on all levels. When holding this jasper, you may feel immediately lighter, more confident, more at peace and have a more positive attitude…knowing that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
