Oklahoma Hourglass Selenite – Crystals of Ascension Part I

Literally stamped with the symbol of the Infinite, the rare hourglass phantom symmetry is a direct reflection of the “as Above, so Below” manifestation. The hourglass symbol has long been used to represent this metaphysical reality.

“That which is above is the same as that which is below”, that the microcosm of life and the earth is a reflection of the macrocosm of God and the heavens.  This phrase comes from the beginning of “The Emerald Tablet“, that almost mythical work of Hermes Trismegistus.

The significance of this phrase is that it is believed to hold the key to all mysteries. For well over a thousand years, this was the basis of astrology, alchemy, chemistry, numerology, geometry and more, the concept of the “dynamic interconnectedness “ of all things. New Discoveries in both Astronomy and Molecular science are just now revealing the truth and reality of this axiom.

Found nowhere else in the world, this unique hourglass phantom combination of Selenite, iron oxide, sand and clay particles all combine to create a  portal to the divine. Within the image of the hourglass lies the key to Ascension, and beyond.

Metaphysical Properties
Outside of rock hounds and mineral collectors, very few people have even heard of this Ascension crystal, much less worked with its energies. It is a key crystal for those on the path of Ascension, Awakening, and Spiritual Advancement.

Oklahoma Hourglass Selenite has a completely different resonant energy than other forms of Selenite. In addition to the metaphysical properties of Selenite,  it has the ability to ground one while working with higher energies. It is in this grounded state of stillness and expanded awareness, that one finds the now and present moment of be-ing.

This gives Hourglass Selenite a more balanced field, allowing one to access higher frequencies of information, beings, and Akashic records without losing touch with your surroundings or physical self. One is able to sustain higher rates of frequency / resonance, without the associated drain on ones own resources.

Hourglass Selenite provides the key to removing blocked energy patterns, unlocking and removing old Karmic chains that can keep one from moving forward. Like all Selenite, it  clears both the environment and user of negative energy.  It can also be used with other crystals to gain a deeper understanding of their uses and energy.

As a cluster, Hourglass Selenite allows one to multitask their energy work in new and innovative ways.  One is able to access higher information, diagnose energy issues, clear blockages, review past lives, access the Akashic records, all at the same time while chatting with the patient.

Connected with both the Root Chakra and the Crown Chakra,  Hourglass Selenite initiates the resonant movement of the Kundalini energy. It clears and grounds each Chakra, one by one, until all are open and aligned.

Grounded in the Root Chakra energies,  Hourglass Selenite provides a solid footing from which to establish ones equilibrium in order to ascend to a higher awareness. Activating and residing in the Crown Chakra energies, it  ensures a connection to universal sources of energy / resonant information and allows for expanded awareness / spirituality on all levels.

Oklahoma Hourglass Selenite reminds us of 2 truths, that our time in this form is limited, like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives measured. The other, that who we really are is unmeasurable, limitless, and ever present within the now.

This crystal vibrates to the numbers 8 and 0, which is about the power of unity and service and the space that allows it all to happen in.

Gemological Properties
Selenite is also referred to as Gypsum and Alabaster.  It is a hydrous calcium sulphate CaSO42H2O.  Selenite is usually transparent in appearance and occurs in the monoclinic crystal system.  It is very soft being a 2 on the Moe's scale of hardness.  The refractive index is 1.52-1.53 and the specific gravity is 2.30.

The Oklahoma Great Salt Plains State Park is the only location in the world where “hourglass selenite” crystals, a rare form of selenite, are found. The crystals are in the park’s most fascinating area, a unique 11,000-acre geological phenomenon.

Geologists theorize that the salt plains were formed by repeated flooding by sea water millions of years ago. Selenite is one of the minerals found in sedimentary environments.

Selenite’s crystals form from the precipitation out of highly saline waters. Since it forms easily from saline water, selenite can have many inclusions of other minerals and even trapped bubbles of air and water.

The Oklahoma Selenite crystals take on the characteristics of their environment – iron oxide in the soil gives the hourglass crystals their chocolate brown color. On the salt plains, sand and clay particles often form an “hourglass” shape inside the crystal.

Nowhere else in the world is this unique hourglass phantom found.

I see a lot of interesting articles here. I have bookmarked for future referrence.

thank you for a wonderful site and excellent information.

I purchased a retired rockhound’s cache and found amazing hourglass selenite in elestials, bridges, twins, liniated…old stuff mined in the 1950’s. As a practitioner and rock hound I immediately thought of calcite, (softness and refractive nature): nothing on the web, Melody, Hall, Natural History like them. When handled, these little “crickets” opened the qi flow, calmed and allowed me to access the ethereal plains without effort….wonderful. I started to use them with my clients for assistance during their guided angelic journeys.

My associate located your site…wonderful description and a “Willi-e-Coyote light bulb over the head moment”: always amazes me when we received with we truly need to serve others.

A deeply humble and gracious thank you for your information and work.

    All the best,

I was born and raised in Oklahoma near Jet and when my sisters and I were little we used to go to Salt Plains with our parents to ski and swim in the brown water of the salt lake. Back then my grandfather was known to be a millionaire in gems and minerals (wealthy rock hound) near the panhandle of Oklahoma and we kids used to go with him to Salt Plains and dig for crystals during the summer months. Mom and Dad would go, too, and I still remember when my dad and grandpa would dig up crystal clusters almost 3 feet in length with huge hour glass crystals sticking out all over the cluster. To me it was such an every day occurance as a kid that I thought it no big deal. We dug and grandpa claimed some really quality specimens. Many years ago grandpa died and his collection of gem and mineral wealth was sold at auction while I was living in Nebraska and unable to go back for the sale. Nothing was left for us kids to keep as mementos. I am now in my 60’s and every time I go back to Oklahoma I try to find time to go to Jet and dig. It’s messy, dirty and exhausting work especially when the wind blows through the plains and salt sand blasts your skin, but just finding tiny hourglass crystals not only stirs the memories but it is so facinating to pour water over the sandy clumps in your hands to reveal these beautiful natural treasures.
